Berry Pie, its always in season!

I know its not the season for this pie… But we have to do what we want, because life is short!

If I had to pick my absolute favorite kind of cooking I would say baking a pie. And if I had to pick my favorite pie to make I’d say Mixed Berry Pie. There are tons of recipes out there that are a variation of this pie but this recipe is mine. Out of trial and reassessing this is what turns out the best in my opinion. I hope you enjoy making it as much as I do!!

Spring Berry Pie

Filling;

1 cup quartered strawberries

1 cup raspberries

1 cup blue berries

1 cup blackberries

¼ cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons cornstarch

dash of cinnamon

dash of nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon zest

Mix all together in a medium bowl and let sit for about 20 minutes.

Pie pastry:

2/3 cup pluse 2 tablespoons shortening

2 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt

4 to 5 tablespoons cold water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Roll out top and bottom pie pasties. Line pie pan with on pastry and fill with fruit filling. Lay top pastry over top the fruit. Seal top and bottom pastries along side of pie pan with thumb. Cut 4-8 vent in the top pastry.

Mix together all ingredients with your hands. Start with 4 tablespoons of cold water and if dry add 5th tablespoon. Split dough in half. To avoid the messy flour situation roll crust in between two pieces of wax paper to a 12-inch circle. (If paper slides wet the counter top just slightly)

Transfer pastry to pie pan and pour the filling into the pan. Roll out the second half of the pastry. Place pastry on top and fold top pastry under access bottom pastry. Seal fold with thumbs. Cut 4-8 vent in the top pastry. Cover top of pie with tin foil, and place in hot oven. Bake 30 min or until filling is boiling. Remove tin foil and bake an additional 20 minutes or until crust is golden brown.

Whats your favorite thing to cook!?

Red White and [Bow]:

In preparation for the forth of July I’m showing off one of the ways I wear the Reagan Bow from Sail Bows! With this comfy dress and keds I can be ready for sitting on the golf course to watch fireworks or eating a full plate of potato salad and watermelon! Yum!

I can’t believe it’s already July! Where has the summer gone!? I’ve just gotten home from school and I’m already packing again! Even with my internship projects and working a little part time I’m really trying to make sure I enjoy being home. Every day I try to do one thing that just sounds fun. It makes life more interesting, like yesterday at work I tried a necklace I thought was just out of the box silly but ended up loving it. The necklace was gathered lace that layer hung about two to three inches with some sparkles on top. By itself it almost reminded me of a high fashion bib?? But it was great!

Make sure to use the code SIMPLY10 when you order with SailBows! And they have free shipping!!

What are you planning to wear on the forth??

Add an [Izzie] to that:

Untitled-1

Last week I started working at Francesca’s, which has been a lot of fun! I’ve never worked the retail side so it’s been interesting! For the most part communicating with costumers comes naturally [I mean after almost 19 years of interacting with people who are working in stores, I should have a pretty good idea of how to handle yourself!] But I have to say that it will definitely take some time to figure out wrapping and bagging customer purchases! It sounds simple enough but trust me that it’s not as easy as it looks!

This past week I already had a reason to go buy a dress with my employee discount! So this weekend I picked up a dress and a pair of earrings! Coincidentally [kind of] the dress matches my Izzie bow from Sail Bows perfectly!

When I wore this outfit the other night for dinner I wore it with my white wedges. What I really wanted to wear were these pumps but I was a little hesitant with such a high heel and what my boyfriend’s grandmother would think. The chunky wood heels and white cross over straps are just so fun!

I also pulled out my favorite perfume that sadly is almost gone! It’s Daisy from Marc Jacobs. I have worn it for a few years now and still love it. The sent is a fresh floral without being too sweet!

[Tuxedo] inspired top:

Untitled-1

I love this top for summer because it’s lightweight, and versatile! #ootd Today I styled it with jeans, a black cardigan and wedges to go into the office, but I have worn it out shopping with casual shorts and sandals.

The tuxedo accent I think allows the top to stand out on its own in an outfit, but it is understated enough that I can layer a necklaces and cardigan on top without the outfit becoming overwhelming!

My flowered necklace is one my dad picked out for me as a gift and it’s a favorite of mine! I have the matching earrings to go along with the necklace but for my personal taste they are a little too long to wear together. Delightfully, I do manage to find just as many opportunities to wear the earrings as I do the necklace!

[Tulle] Time:

Untitled-1

I’ve wanted to make a tulle skirt for a long time now. After finding Aspiring Kennedy’s for the love of Paris post I figured no time was better than the present.

She got to take fun photos while running around Paris in two hundred yards of tulle. My skirt is only a few 18 yards compared to hers but it filled my need for a full tulle skirt!

This was a DIY project but I didn’t follow a tutorial I just kind of did it. I had an idea in my head that came to life with help from my mom and aunt.

Hopefully I’ll find the perfect place to wear it but for now I’m happy to dance around the house in it! I scared my cat a little but she will be fine!

Also I want to talk to y’all about my hair! I have worn my hair in this style for two recent evening events and I love how easy/ almost fool proof it is. When it comes to me and hair it never works out but this I can do! I got the inspiration from Pinterest  “perfect updo for short hair” and after getting frustrated with figuring out the soft swirls I braided what was down and just started pinning!

Would you ever wear a tulle skirt?

[Sail bows] are a yes for this summer!

Three

I just got a bow from sail bows and I love it! This one is the Penelope pattern, but there are so many great ones to choose from. Some of the patterns are even Lily Pulitzer!

I stumbled across Sail bows on Instagram and adored the brand immediately! I mean, with bows, what’s not to like! Plus the girl behind it all is from Orlando like me!

All of the bows are hand made with care! The bows come with a French barrette clip and made to be worn on the right side of the head.

I wear mine in many different ways though! The bow is the perfect size to go both on the side of your head and the back. I also love the easy look of the bow with a topknot!

I have found that the bow stays tight all day, which is so important! Having to continuously fix hair clips is the worst…

With the light yellow and white colors of the Penelope pattern I can pair the bow with almost any outfit! I have all ready worn it with an army green tank top, a bright blue top, and even a comfy black sundress.

I’m really going to have to get used to the Florida weather again. Taking pictures for this post was sweltering, even though it was late afternoon. But I really have missed this beautiful sunshine state!
